Among the most beautiful beaches in the world border the Indian Ocean which are a least two days travel time from home. We decided to search for something closer settling on Vieques Island – which offered every bit as delightful beaches as we had seen in Africa. Warm water, tropical climate, gorgeous beaches and only a day travel. We rented a house on the Atlantic side overlooking the sea washed by a constant on-shore breeze. Great beachcombing, swimming and snorkeling without the crowds, resorts and gambling that dominate near-by- Puerto Rico. Across the Island, a village with waterfront promenade Our favorite snorkeling beach . . . The main town . . . Our vacation rental . . .
We had flown into San Juan on the inbound, then took a hopper flight to Vieques and while our stay on the island was terrific, we decided to spend a little time in San Juan on the outbound. We were not disappointed particularly exploring the old town and fort.
