Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a long, long, long ways from home in the Pacific Northwest US.  Typically, we fly to Europe (to Paris mais bien sur – for the evening, then outbound to Africa the next morning – very civilized).  The terminal in Charles de Gaulle with eateries and shops below ground level.

z Zanzibar 031We flew from Paris to Dar es Salaam arriving late in the evening, so we spent the night leaving a little time the following morning for a little sight seeing in the city before taking a short flight to the island of Zanzibar. We went to a mock traditional Tanzania village with this delightful women interpreter.

The view from from our hotel from the beach. The beach was very flat: at low tide, the water was nearly a quarter mile from the hotel, at high tide the water nearly reaches the vegetation line.
